Zack from Concord asks: Will we see snow this winter?
This is a question we have been getting a lot lately, will it snow! Well the short answer is that the chance for seeing significant snow at all this winter is not very good. We will likely see at least some snowfall, but, it will likely not amount to much.On average we see about 5 inches of snowfall between December and March. So even if you just look at that stat alone, that will tell you the chances of seeing a significant snowfall in Charlotte is pretty low if we average only 5 inches for over three months. That being said, we have seen some major snowfalls in recent years. In the winter of 2003-2004 we saw 13 inches in February, the winter before we saw 9.5 inches in January. So it is possible for us to see a major snowfall but it is rare.So on to the forecast...the 90 day outlook for temperatures in Charlotte is calling for near normal temperatures (that's good for snow) but the outlook for precipitation is below normal (not good). Bottom line this means the chances for seeing snowfall this winter are probably lower than normal. We will keep our fingers crossed for at least some of the white stuff.
